The Luken T. Boyle Campaign for Kindness is excited to announce the opening of three new Kindness Rooms in Ohio schools! With the addition of these spaces at Crim Elementary, Sidney High School, and Oakdale Elementary, more students will have access to a dedicated environment designed to promote kindness, emotional well-being, and a culture of empathy within their school communities.

What is a Kindness Room?

A Kindness Room is more than just a space. These rooms are designed to be safe, welcoming environments where students can take a break, reflect, and engage in intentional acts of kindness. Equipped with creative materials, calming areas, and kindness-focused activities, these rooms encourage students to support one another and foster a culture of respect and compassion.

Each school’s Kindness Room is tailored to meet the unique needs of its students, offering opportunities to:

  • Practice mindfulness and self-care techniques
  • Write notes of encouragement to peers, teachers, or community members
  • Engage in projects that promote kindness inside and outside the classroom
  • Foster peer connections and social-emotional learning

The Value of Kindness in Schools

Studies have shown that promoting kindness and empathy in schools leads to a more positive learning environment, improved student mental health, and stronger peer relationships. When students feel seen, valued, and supported, they are more likely to succeed both academically and emotionally.

By integrating Kindness Rooms into schools, we aim to:

  • Improve emotional well-being by offering students a space to decompress and process emotions
  • Encourage acts of kindness that strengthen peer relationships and build community
  • Reduce stress and anxiety through mindfulness activities and positive reinforcement
  • Create a school culture centered on empathy and respect

Meet Our Newest Kindness Rooms!

Crim Elementary School – Bowling Green, OH

At Crim Elementary, kindness is at the heart of the school’s mission to nurture a supportive and inclusive environment for young learners. The new Kindness Room will give students a space to explore empathy, build friendships, and create acts of kindness that impact their classmates and the greater community. Through engaging activities and positive reinforcement, Crim’s students will learn that even the smallest act of kindness can make a big difference.

Sidney High School – Sidney, OH

Sidney High School serves over 900 students in grades 9-12, offering rigorous academics and strong extracurricular programs. The addition of a Kindness Room will support students’ mental health and well-being, providing them with a place to decompress, reflect, and contribute to a culture of compassion. High school can be a challenging time, and this space will ensure students have the tools to practice self-care and uplift those around them.

Oakdale Elementary School – Toledo, OH

Oakdale Elementary is committed to fostering a positive and enriching learning environment for its students. With the launch of the Kindness Room, students will have a dedicated space to engage in kindness-focused projects, practice mindfulness, and create meaningful connections. The room officially opened in December 2024, with staff training completed in early 2025, ensuring that Oakdale’s students have a fully functional space for spreading kindness every day.

The Growing Impact of Kindness Rooms

With each new Kindness Room, we see firsthand how small acts of kindness create a ripple effect throughout the school and beyond. Whether it’s a handwritten note, a comforting space to reset, or an opportunity to give back, these rooms empower students to make kindness an everyday habit.

The launch of three new Kindness Rooms is an exciting step forward, bringing the message of kindness, inclusion, and mental wellness to even more students. We are incredibly grateful to our school partners, educators, and supporters who help make this initiative possible.
