This past weekend, the community came together for a beautiful celebration of Kindness and compassion at the 3rd Annual Skate for Kindness, presented by the Luken T. Boyle Campaign for Kindness. The event brought joy, fellowship, and meaningful conversation to skaters of all ages, including members of the Toledo Walleye and BGSU Hockey teams. WTOL 11 stopped by to provide some event coverage spotlighting the impact kindness can have when a community unites for a common purpose.

Spreading Kindness Through Skating
Held once again at The Ribbon at Glass City Metropark in Toledo, Skate for Kindness is more than a winter season fundraiser; it’s a movement. Families, friends, and individuals took to the ice not just to skate and laugh together, but to embody what kindness feels like in action. Participants shared smiles, stories, and encouragement, reinforcing a message that kindness isn’t just a word — it’s something we live and give.
The event is focused on the mission of the Luken T. Boyle Campaign for Kindness, a nonprofit started in memory of Luken T. Boyle. Luken’s legacy continues to inspire others to see the value in every person and prioritize empathy, understanding, and kindness in everyday life. The Skate for Kindness event carries that mission forward every year.
More Than Fun: A Movement Toward Compassion
As skaters laced up and took the ice, the atmosphere was filled with laughter, support, and moments that reminded everyone why we gather to spread kindness and save lives. Young and older participants alike experienced firsthand how intentional kindness can lift spirits, build relationships, and strengthen community bonds.
Whether you came to skate, watch, or simply took part in the uplifting energy at The Ribbon, this year’s Skate for Kindness was a meaningful reminder that kindness matters — today and every day.
